Why do we do what we do?
As a working South African relying on public transport, I came to a painful realisation. Every day I spent my hard-earned money to get to work, yet it often felt like I was being done a favour. I found myself in taxis that were falling apart, putting lives at risk, and dealing with drivers who insulted me for not having the right change. Worst of all, I felt betrayed—that the transport I was paying for seemed to put profit above my safety.
Experiencing public transport every day made one thing clear—if change wasn’t going to happen, I had to take the first step. I could no longer watch my brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers be treated as just numbers in a system that didn’t care. That’s why Ride 2 Work was born: a community where safety, dignity, and connection come first. Together, we’re taking back control of our daily journeys—and this is where our story begins.
